Founded in 2018, Resort is a new iteration of a curatorial collaboration between Seth Adelsberger and Alex Ebstein, who previously co-founded and ran Nudashank (2009–2013). Resort is an artist-run gallery dedicated to exhibiting contemporary art and promoting collaboration.
The program has a geographical and personal focus on the Baltimore creative community, founded as a platform to highlight the breadth of work being made locally. In its two years of programming, Resort has supported new bodies of work, welcomed guest curators, and hosted the public in free events and open hours.
Of the 44 artists and two guest curators that Resort has worked with for exhibitions, 32 are either residents of the Baltimore area or spent significant time here as a student or professor.
Resort presents exhibitions in three unique spaces: a central white-cube gallery and two smaller project spaces for experimental installations and video and solo projects. The mission of Resort curators is to create a meaningful context for new work while expanding the audience for cultural production.
Works from Resort
As we grapple with the boundaries of our respective domiciles, we are also finding new ways to locate sanctuary within. These works reflect a spectrum of perspectives on time passed in the home. They represent glimpses of intimate space, objects of comfort, investigations of structure, and inevitable feelings of confinement.
