Current Space
Current Space is an artist-run gallery, studio, and outdoor performance space that fosters an ongoing dialogue between artists, activists, performers, designers, curators, and thinkers. It is committed to showcasing, developing, and broadening the reach of artists locally and internationally.
Current Space was founded in 2004, occupying vacant, city-owned buildings on blighted blocks slated for demolition or redevelopment. Last year, the organization secured ownership of the building it had occupied for the past 10 years, which allowed for investing in the space in ways that were unattainable before, including making major repairs and updates. Current Space has been closed to the public since March due to the pandemic but has remained busy, building out new studios and making improvements to the shared screen printing facility, darkroom, and outdoor performance space.
In response, Current Space is launching a new online store to generate income for artists and will donate its share of sales to NAACP and NDN Collective’s COVID-19 Response Project for the first 30 days after the shop opens.
Featured Works
If you can, buy art and music. Exhibitions and tours have been canceled. This collection features artists we have worked with over the past 15 years and artists we hope to work with in the future. Current Space will donate its share of sales to NAACP and NDN Collective’s COVID-19 Response Project for the first 30 days.
